Collaborators

The Connor lab research program is directed at understanding how physiological and structural properties of muscles, skin, and the central and peripheral nervous systems change with aging, surgery, diseases and disorders, and how these changes may influence properties of voice production, speech, and swallowing.

Dr. Timothy Mcculloch specializes in treatment of head and neck cancer, voice and swallowing disorders, trauma, reconstruction, and skull base surgery.

Dr. Nicole Rogus-Pulia runs The Swallowing & Salivary Bioscience Lab it is a translational research program focused on dysphagia, or swallowing dysfunction, in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

The main goal of Dr. Rebecca Johnson’s translational research program as a clinician-scientist focuses on the ability to reverse (or slow development of) breathing deficits in models of neurological diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), spinal cord injury, and multiple sclerosis (MS).

Dr. Theresa Lever of the University of Missouri performs translational research on the neuroscience of dysphagia, or swallowing impairment.

Dr. Sheila Fleming studies the underlying mechanisms of the motor and non-motor symptoms associated with Parkinson disease and tests potential therapeutics in animal models of the disorder at the University of Cincinatti.
